Joseph Koot

Joseph Koot retired from work as nurse manager in the federal prison system. He and Joanne live in Dorchester Cape and enjoy travel and visits with their five children and eight grandchildren. Joseph has written four books during retirement.

“Looking for Bill, Finding Myself” is Joseph’s childhood memoir. It describes his early years in the Netherlands, immigration to a farm in Canada and the loneliness of seminary life. The book recounts the complex relationship with his brother, Bill’s tragic death and Joseph’s need to resolve childhood issues.

“Europe, One Step at a Time” is a tale of adventure, the story of Joseph’s hike across Europe when he retired. This trek took him 6,000 kilometres through 10 countries from Portugal to Estonia. The walk became an exploration of European culture and a journey of inner healing.

“Updating My Catholic God” is a rebellious study of religion in Joseph’s life with a wish that faith be more comforting to all.

“My Rhymes, Your Drawings” consists of 50 poems for the young and the young at heart. Each page includes a framed area for the child to draw the picture imagined.
